Description

Amish Apple Bread brings warm farmhouse comfort straight to your kitchen table, with sweet cinnamon-kissed apples nestled into a tender, golden loaf that feels like a warm hug from grandma.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 2 apples
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup milk

Supporting Ingredients:

  • ⅔ cup white sugar
  • ⅓ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract

Finishing Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 ¾ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and coat a 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Mix ⅓ cup packed light brown sugar with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon in a small bowl for the swirl topping.
  3. Cream ⅔ cup white sugar with ½ cup softened unsalted butter until the mixture looks fluffy and light.
  4. Add 2 large eggs to the sugar-butter mixture, beating thoroughly after each addition. Stir in 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract.
  5. Whisk 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour with 1 ¾ teaspoons baking powder in a separate bowl.
  6. Gradually fold the flour mixture and ½ cup milk into the butter mixture, alternating between dry and wet ingredients.
  7. Pour half the batter into the prepared pan, then sprinkle half of the chopped apples and half the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
  8. Use a knife to create gentle swirls through the first layer of batter, apples, and sugar.
  9. Add the remaining batter, top with the rest of the chopped apples and cinnamon-sugar mixture, and swirl again.
  10. Bake at 350°F for 50-60 minutes, checking doneness with a toothpick inserted in the center.
  11. Let the bread cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  12. Whisk ½ cup powdered sugar with 1-2 tablespoons milk and ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract to create a smooth glaze.
  13. Drizzle the glaze over the completely cooled bread before serving.

Notes

  • Use ripe, firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best texture and flavor balance in the bread.
  • Gently fold the flour mixture into the wet ingredients to keep the batter light and prevent tough bread.
  • When swirling the cinnamon-sugar and apples, use a light touch to create beautiful marbled layers without overmixing.
  • For a gluten-free version, swap regular flour with a cup-for-cup gluten-free blend and ensure your baking powder is gluten-free.
