Description

Bananas Foster Pie brings New Orleans charm straight to your dessert table with a caramelized banana twist that’ll make your taste buds dance. Rich rum-soaked caramel and creamy banana filling nestled in a flaky crust create a sweet Southern treat perfect for sharing with friends.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe but firm bananas
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Supporting Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Crust Ingredients:

  • 1 9-inch pie crust
  • ½ cup crushed Golden Grams cereal (optional)
  • ¼ cup melted butter (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Warm your oven to 375F and prepare a 9-inch pie crust. If making a Golden Grams crust, blend 1½ cups cereal with ¼ cup melted butter and 2 tbsp brown sugar, then press firmly into the pie dish.
  2. Pre-bake your traditional pie crust for 10-12 minutes until it reaches a delicate golden shade.
  3. Grab a skillet and melt ½ cup unsalted butter over medium heat. Sprinkle in ¾ cup brown sugar, 1½ tsp cinnamon, ⅛ tsp nutmeg, and ¼ tsp salt, stirring until the mixture becomes silky and effervescent.
  4. Gently slide 4 sliced ripe bananas into the bubbling mixture. Let them simmer for 2-3 minutes until they soften and caramelize slightly.
  5. Pour ¼ cup heavy cream and 2 tsp vanilla extract into the skillet. Once bubbling, add your cornstarch mixture (2 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water) and cook for 1-2 minutes until the filling thickens.
  6. Transfer the luscious banana mixture into your prepared crust. Slide the pie into the oven at 350F and bake for 15-20 minutes, watching for a just-set center.
  7. Allow your pie to cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for a minimum of 1 hour to set firmly.
  8. When serving, adorn with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, crushed toasted pecans, or a drizzle of caramel sauce.

Notes

  • Let the pie crust cool completely before adding the banana filling to prevent a soggy bottom.
  • If bananas are extra ripe, reduce the cooking time to prevent them from becoming mushy.
  • Create a gluten-free version by using almond flour or crushed gluten-free graham crackers for the crust.
  • For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half or whole milk for the cream and use less butter.
