Description

Chocolate chocolate chip cookie bars deliver pure comfort straight from your kitchen, melting together rich chocolate and sweet nostalgia. Craving something simple yet delicious? These bars will satisfy your sweet tooth with minimal effort and maximum flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients:

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar

Binding Ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Finishing Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and prepare a 9 x 13 inch pan by lining it with parchment paper that hangs over the sides.
  2. Using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, cream 1 cup unsalted butter, 1 cup light brown sugar, and ½ cup granulated sugar until the mixture becomes light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add 2 large eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract to the butter mixture, blending until completely incorporated and scraping down the bowl’s sides.
  4. In a separate bowl, thoroughly whisk 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour, ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1 teaspoon salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture on low speed, mixing just until combined without overworking the dough.
  6. Gently fold 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips into the batter, distributing them evenly.
  7. Transfer the dough to the prepared pan, using parchment paper or cooking spray to help spread it evenly without sticking.
  8. Scatter the remaining 1 cup of chocolate chips across the top of the dough.
  9. Bake for 22-26 minutes until the edges are firm and the center appears barely set.
  10. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before lifting out the parchment and cutting into squares.

Notes

  • Store extra bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days to keep them soft and fresh.
  • Swap out semi-sweet chocolate chips for dark, milk, or white chocolate chips to customize the flavor profile to your taste.
  • Use room temperature eggs and butter for smoother mixing and better texture in your cookie bars.
  • For a gluten-free version, replace the all-purpose flour with a 1:1 gluten-free baking blend to maintain the same rich chocolate texture.
