Description

Frosted Coffee Brownies turn your afternoon pick-me-up into a delectable chocolate-covered dream. Rich espresso and smooth chocolate unite for a treat that’ll make your taste buds dance with pure delight.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

Supporting Ingredients:

  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons coffee extract or 1 tablespoon instant coffee
  • 1 ½ teaspoons instant coffee granules
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Frosting Ingredients:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 24 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Coat an 8-inch baking dish with non-stick spray and line with parchment paper.
  2. Melt 1 stick of butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Transfer to a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add 1 cup granulated sugar, 2 large eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract to the butter. Stir until completely combined.
  4. Sift ½ cup flour, ⅓ cup cocoa powder, ¼ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon baking powder into the wet ingredients. Mix until the batter looks smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared dish. Spread evenly and bake for 30-35 minutes at 350°F. Check doneness with a toothpick – it should come out clean.
  6. Let the brownies cool completely at room temperature for about 1 hour.
  7. Dissolve 1 ½ teaspoons instant coffee granules in 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream. Set aside.
  8. Beat ⅓ cup unsalted butter until it becomes light and fluffy in a separate mixing bowl.
  9. Gradually add 2 cups powdered sugar to the butter. Mix until the frosting looks smooth and creamy.
  10. Slowly incorporate the coffee cream into the frosting. Add more cream if needed to reach desired consistency.
  11. Spread the coffee frosting generously across the cooled brownies. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  • Ensure brownies are completely cool before frosting to prevent melting and maintain a clean, smooth frosting surface.
  • For a richer coffee flavor, use espresso powder instead of instant coffee granules, which provides a more intense and complex taste.
  • Line your baking pan with parchment paper for easy removal and clean cutting of brownies, creating perfect square slices.
  • When mixing the batter, avoid overmixing to keep the brownies tender and prevent a tough, dense texture.
