Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and coat two 9-inch round cake pans with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Whisk 2 cups flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, and ½ teaspoon salt in a medium bowl until thoroughly combined.
  3. Cream 1 cup butter and 2 cups sugar in a large mixer bowl for 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.
  4. Add 4 eggs one at a time to the butter mixture, mixing completely after each addition.
  5. Incorporate 2 teaspoons vanilla extract into the batter.
  6. Gradually blend dry ingredients with 1 cup milk, mixing on low speed until smooth.
  7. Roughly chop 20 Oreo cookies and gently fold into cake batter.
  8. Divide batter evenly between prepared cake pans.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes at 350°F, checking with a toothpick for doneness.
  10. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  11. Beat 16 oz cream cheese with 1 cup powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
  12. Fold ½ cup heavy cream and 1 cup crushed Oreo cookies into frosting.
  13. Place first cake layer on serving plate and spread half the frosting.
  14. Add second cake layer and cover entire cake with remaining frosting.
  15. Decorate cake edges and top with 12 whole Oreo cookies.
  16. Drizzle ¼ cup chocolate syrup over cake.
  17. Refrigerate cake for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

  • Crush Oreos just before mixing into batter to prevent them from getting soggy and maintain their crisp texture.
  • Let cake layers cool completely before frosting to prevent the cream cheese frosting from melting and sliding off.
  • For a smoother cake texture, sift dry ingredients before mixing to eliminate any lumps and create a more uniform crumb.
  • When decorating, crush some extra Oreos more finely for sprinkling on top for an additional layer of cookie crunch.
