Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients:
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (340g)
- 2 and ¼ cups all-purpose flour (270g)
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, melted (170g)
- 1 cup packed brown sugar (220g)
- ½ cup granulated sugar (100g)
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
Supportive Ingredients:
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Seasoning:
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Prepare the oven at 325°F (163°C) and position a rack in the middle. Coat a 9×13-inch baking pan with non-stick spray or parchment paper for smooth removal.
- Blend 2 ¼ cups (270g) all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon baking soda, and ½ teaspoon salt in a medium bowl. Whisk thoroughly to distribute ingredients evenly.
- Melt ¾ cup (170g) unsalted butter. Pour into a large mixing bowl and combine with 1 cup (220g) brown sugar and ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar until glossy and smooth.
- Incorporate 2 room-temperature large eggs and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract into the butter-sugar mixture. Whisk until completely integrated.
- Fold dry ingredients into wet ingredients with a spatula. Mix gently until flour disappears – avoid overmixing your batter.
- Add 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips. Stir to distribute chips throughout the dough evenly.
- Transfer dough to prepared pan. Press mixture into corners and smooth the surface using a spatula.
- Optionally, press a few extra chocolate chips on top of the dough for visual appeal.
- Bake for 28-32 minutes until edges turn golden and center shows just a few moist crumbs when tested.
- Remove from oven and let bars rest in pan for 30 minutes. Refrigerate briefly for cleaner cutting if desired.
- Slice into squares or rectangles once completely cooled.
Notes
- Check your butter temperature to ensure it’s properly melted but not hot, which helps create that soft, chewy texture.
- Use room temperature eggs for better ingredient integration and a smoother batter consistency.
- When mixing dry and wet ingredients, stir gently to avoid developing tough gluten that can make bars dense and hard.
- For gluten-free adaptation, swap all-purpose flour with a cup-for-cup gluten-free blend and add 1/4 teaspoon xanthan gum for better structure.
